Explore the mighty Breede River

The Breede ('broad') River rises in the mountains of Ceres and flows through its self-carved valleys for approximately 257km to meet the Indian Ocean in Witsand. This near-pristine river is regarded as one of South Africa’s top fishing locations, as well as being one of the most navigable in the Western Cape (28km upriver from the mouth). The upper reaches are renowned for its bass, making it one of the top 9 best-bass-fishing-spots in South Africa, while the lower reaches are a saltwater fisherman’s paradise with popular fish species being caught like the; Dusky Cob, Spotted Grunter, White Steenbras, Kolstert and Elf.

Catch-and-release is strongly encouraged.

Rivercruises as well as fishing charters are readily available.
